Apple Finally Delivers Live News Section To The TV App!

Apple’s TV App updated yesterday with the Live News section they promised back when the Apple TV 4K was first announced back in September.  Earlier this year they delivered on the Sports Section which allows you to follow teams, see in-progress games, upcoming games, and scores.

The News section is located under your Up Next, What to Watch and below another new section covering the Winter Olympics ‘PyeongChang 2018’.  The News feature currently lists CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Cheddar, CNBC and Bloomberg, all with a little red LIVE square in the top corner of the covers.

It does require you have the individual News app installed, but if you don’t, you’ll be redirected to the App Store to download it.

Once downloaded you do have to authenticate each app by signing in with your cable subscription, but with Apple’s Single Sign-on, you’re prompted immediately to allow the App to use your current cable subscription.

In the future, I’m hoping for a more enhanced news section. One that allows you to see what’s currently airing on that channel instead of just a static image and gives you the option to launch directly into the individual app or just open up your Hulu Live TV, Sling, Direct TV Now, YouTube Live TV app to that channel.
